Life coaching is a very different profession from counselling, mentoring, therapy or giving advice. The coaching process addresses all areas of a person’s life, whether personal development, relationships, professional, business or more general conditions.
Some typical reasons someone might work with a coach
A person or team might choose to work with a coach for many reasons, including but not limited to:
- Something urgent, compelling or exciting is at stake (a challenge, goal or opportunity)
- A gap exists in knowledge, skills confidence or resources
- A desire to accelerate results
- A lack of clarity with choices to be made
- Success has started to become problematic
- Work and life are out of balance, creating unwanted consequences
- Core strengths need to be identified, along with how best to leverage them
What decisions are you not making?
What is important to you?
What is most frustrating to you right now?
Is it time for you to get out of your own way and start living the life you choose?
Mahatma Gandhi said “The difference between what we are doing and what we are capable of doing would solve most of the world’s problems.”
Life Coaching & Healing Combination
Jason was a student, 23 years old and came to me for life coaching because he was given a gift voucher for his first session. Jason admitted he didn’t know what to expect because he had never been to a life coach before.
I explained the ICF definition for coaching, which describes it as “partnering with clients in a thought provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximise their personal and professional potential.”
Jason said he was relieved because he hates being told what to do.
Jason said his energy was very low and he felt lethargic most of the time and that his interest in his studies was at an all-time low.
Priorities
Because Jason’s health was an obstacle for him, I offered to do an Iris Diagnosis for him to shed some light on the causes of his low energy. Jason felt validated when I told him that I could see signs of long-term viral infection, his liver was affected and so was his nervous system.
I prescribed the appropriate remedies, both for emotional support as well as healing his body. Over the next few months, Jason’s health improved dramatically.
Going forward
Jason had previously set some career goals which he felt ready to work on, now that his energy and health had improved. Through our discussions we were able to identify and work through his obstacles and shortcomings, many of which were caused by fear of the future, self-doubt and belief systems that held him back.
After working closely with Jason for 3 months, he felt ready to take the next step onto the path of his future belonging.
Jason’s comment: “Thanks Margaret…. couldn’t have done it without you.
